What's Your Story, Shiver and Fears?

During the year 2022 Shiver and Fears is working on a major project. I will give 3rd grade students the chance to become Shiver and Fears characters. As you probably remember "The Burning Ghost" was a winning title in a contest.

We're doing it again in 2022, just a little different. We are expecting a bundle of 3rd grade students to enter their title for the next Shiver and Fears book. Now this book will be different, because this book will be another Terror Tales book. So a collection of entries will be placed and published to the public.

This contest will do more this time as well. Our goal is to encourage young creative minds to make an accomplishment. Well this will be Shiver and Fears first time making a book not self-published, but written by someone else; the students.

Those who created their title, but weren't included in Shiver and Fears Terror Tales book will be given a chance to write their own story. This story will be placed in a different book full of 3rd graders and their creative writings.

This contest will be at the works starting the first Monday in January.   This will be an interesting contest because of the unpredicable outcome of class schedules and student's will.

Will Shiver and Fears be able to make these books? And what's Plan B if it fails? Well, we have our ways...

Shiver and Fears Starts Over

Hey to all you Shiver and Fears fans out there. If you've noticed, Facebook has rid Shiver and Fears from their site.

Apparently I've been accused of breaking facebook rules and caused my page to be deleted. Note: no proof was presented for this to happen.

Anyway, Shiver and Fears has to start all over. Let's see how many fans Shiver and Fears really has. It's kind of like a test. Well, it has to be a test because we HAVE to start over!

Let me get to the point. If you were a follower to Shiver and Fears on facebook, here's how you can follow again: either go to facebook and search for Shiver and Fears again or copy and paste Facebook.com/shiverandfears2. As of now very little know of this situation, we are doing our best to solve it. It'll take a few years, but I have faith that everything can be put back in order.

Take a moment of your time today, and like us on facebook, then share it with your friends and let them know how much we want our fans back!

The Real Facts

So, as some of you know I've presented videos of familiar stars claiming they were around to help Shiver and Fears. How does a famous author get such busy stars to take a moment of their schedule to help Shiver and Fears? Well the best way, is to pay them. These stars are bought at a site called Cameo.

Before getting into more detail, the main question is: What is this all about? *sigh* I am not famous! I am not some-what friends with tv stars, I don't have 1600 followers on instagram, and if you think Shiver and Fears sales like hot cakes, they don't!

Let me tell you the truth behind Shiver and Fears. Book sites around the U.S. have Shiver and Fears included, but no store has them themselves. The only stars that know anything about Shiver and Fears is Kamran Lucas who can name at least one title.

So why am I explaining this? I've been a jerk to people just by believing I'm a star. It's funny how just by believing your an important person can make you act so stuck up.
I mean are all stars REALLY as sweet as they appear on tv? Even behind the scene? The truth, from what I see, no. We don't really know the actual personalities behind these guys, not until we really meet them. I mean, how many tv stars have you messaged on social media and they replied back? And are they not replying because they can't answer to everyone, or could it be they don't want to answer to you?
I'll tell you, I've messaged Alisa Reyes, Kel Mitchell, Isaac Ryan Brown and yes, Kamran Lucas. I never get a response back. Kyle has replied once or twice after replying to his posts, and Leon Frierson chat once in a while. But my first step into not being a snob, like some stars is by admitting: I've had my interviews, I'm placed on socal medias and had a moment on the newspaper and tv, but I AM NO STAR!

Creeps Pays a Visit

A lot of you have seen Creeps, Shiver and Fears mascot. We don't talk about him much, because for those of you who don't know, he's an ice monster.

He enjoys being ice-olated (dumb joke; I know) But he doesn't like to be around people. But this October he decided to pay a visit to Britton Elementary. Right now he's spending the month in Ms. Pollard's class. Why?
Before we answer that let me tell you why you don't hear about Creeps alot. For one thing, he's an ice monster, so weather here isn't the best for him. Secondly, you don't want to poke the bear (ice monster in this case) with tasks he doesn't want to do. Lastly, he doesn't do too much.
So that give you the question of Why is Creeps visiting an elementary school? Well, I've asked him to pay a visit to the students and give them audio books. Every school day he gives a audio ticket to good students.
Now, I told him not to eat anyone. So Ms. Pollard is feeding him ice cubes to keep him calm. I do wonder how the students are treating him. Because if they treat him wrong, he might go balistic! Well I'm sure he'll last a while, I mean we have Fall Break So he only has 3 weeks with those kids. Not too bad!
Creeps will be leaving soon, before Halloween. I thought he'd stay longer. But I guess it's a tradition; come to school for a month and disappear back to your habitat. Where does he live? Shoot, I don't know!

Winners for Shiver and Fears

If you've been on the website, you know about Ms. Wilson's class. Shiver and Fears had about 22 students enter in a give-a-way. What was the occasion? Shiver and Fears author, AJ Hard, birthday is September 13th! Instead of recieving gifts and praise for AJ is doing the giving, and he is giving the rightful students amazing gifts.

Wait, rightful student? Well, yes. So we started with about 22 students. Ms. Wilson was in charge of which students remain on the list. Well whithin a week, it went from 22 to 3!😞😞 Pretty shocking huh? Well let me tell you what these students won. They were all going to receive an audio book, but one would get the first view of the newest edition.

Well since there were only 3 things had to change. The 3rd place winner got an audio book, the 2nd place winner got a glowing Shiver and Fears face mask with being the first owner of the new audio book: Terror Tales, and first place got the coolest prize of all! Reybi ( ˈreɪ.biː) Santillah chose Shiver and Fears next book: "Hauntings from Halloween Kids"

The story is about a town that is afraid of Halloween. It's because of a curse, when the ghosts of trick or treaters come to your house and say their chant you become one of them! Reybi and his friend Ximana (h ee-m ai-n uh) will be the main characters in the story! They will be the first hispanic character used is a Shiver and Fears book! That's big news!

In the end, it pays to be a good student!

Monsters are out now!

Shiver and Fears has been able to focus a lot more on book # 33 ever since summer ended. Want to know what's been up? Then you haven't been catching up with social media. Ever since the bookaversary ended things have gone crazy as it's been mounted with summer activities. Pool parties,  birthdays, and getting ready for school.

Now that school has started teachers are preparing themselves still learning what's next on our adventure. But that's now what this blog is about. It's about the monsters coming... yep, there are monsters!

yeah, it's that time of year again. The Get Monsterfied Contest. This was the winner of 2020. he's pretty grusome. He was the top favorite, and now we're getting new contestants. What Been Happening?

Wow, it's been a while. Shiver and Fears hasn't focused on a book, blog, or video in a while! Why? The Bookaversary of course. Last you heard about it, you probably thought it was a pool party, but it ending up being more.

The plan went from a pool party, to a park water party, to a drive by in the park, to a drive by at home! I've spent weeks trying to get the plans set correctly.

Once I had an idea I spent the rest of the time setting up the plan.
53 people are at home with a water, bookmark, cookie, key chain, and audio book code. But the question is what to do with the remaining bags? Well don't worry, they are slowly finding a home as time goes by.
This might be what Shiver and Fears has needed to reach more people. So chances are this will happen again next year, but things will be different. And I got a whole year to think of it.
Meanwhile now it's time to get the next event set. The Monsterfied Contest!

Long story short...

June has been a busy month, not just because of of books, or the bookaversary. Because I've been set in charge of a lot of other things:

ok, I'm not in the last one, but I took that photo. I've been working with kids day after day. In my free time i've kept my mind on the bookaversary and all the qualities needed.

So what's happening at the bookaversary? We making a goal of passing around 60 merch bags with a water, keychain, ticket, bookmark all relating to Shiver and Fears. There a little more included. So I told you about the giant card, right? peaople are signing it now, but for those of you who want to wait, sinature will be placed July 17th at the drive-by.

For those of you who can't make it, just comment what you want to place on the card like these people

This card will be presented on the actually bookaversary date which is July 20th on youtube.
Not much of a story today, but if only you knew the story behind the author you would understand why.

Sugar and Fears

So here's a story: I spent my Saturday cooking 4 dozen batches of Sugar and Fears cookies for the annual family gathering. I had everything set, so when the time came to go the gathering Sunday afternoon... plans were changed.

Now usually parties and gathering change because of weather or guest host last minute problems. This was not the case. The problem is finding that person to rely on. Yep, it's true even celebrities have a hard time finding a reliable source.

So now I have a whole batch and mouth watering white chocolate chip blue sugar cookies and no where to place to put them. Now if I'm correct, you might be saying just throw them away... can you imagine working the day away on special cookies that you end up having to trash? Not me.

Now I have to find a plan for a wasted Sunday afternoon and figure out who to send these cookie to. It just comes to show, you can't just spend your weekend with just anyone!

Author live in person

School is finally out for this teacher, and what a month of work. Just earlier Shiver and Fearshad been presented in front of young readers of the grade of 3rd. After reading An Old Bite, A Puppet Family and a summary of The Ghost of Future Me, students were wowed with dozens of questions. Even the teachers were amazed with the story behind Shiver and Fears.
Throughout the week, I was no longer known to those kids as a teacher they've seen in the hall. I was now Mr. AJ Hard, the teacher who published books. Although, it's ashame. Today 4 of our student will be making their way to 5th grade. Them and the other 8 never knew this about their own teacher! Why were they never told? It wasn't because I was ashamed or anything. It was because I didn't want to lose the realationship I already had with them.
To those students of mine I was a teacher and I wasn't ready to advance that title, not just yet. Although I did think, maybe if I had shown them one of my books, maybe they would better understand  how a book is formed.
Anyway, I hope that next year  Shiver and Fears can reach out to more students. In fact my plan is to have a book published by the school, for the school. But we'll have to see what this year holds for us!

Early Start in the Bookaversary

If you are reading this you are either a fan of my blogs, or you heard about the bookaversary this summer. This year we are doing things a little differnt. In the earlier years, Shiver and Fears would start a fundraiser in February- June and the money would go to food, prizes, decorations, and stuff like that.

Well last year I came to thinking. Why go through so much stress setting up a party. Coming up with games to win prizes, food to put together, and having a book sell too? Wow, seems too much.

So this year we're going to try something differnt. For one thing, we're going to make sure people enjoy the water part of the whole party, by hosting a pool party. Secondly no need to buy a collection of books to sell for the book signing when you already have the book yourself (especially when people are more interested in audiobooks)

Now food has always been free, but this year we're not just going to support ourselves. Shiver and Fears is going to support someone else too. This year Shiver and Fears is having a bake sale as well as a book sale.

Whio is our baker? She's new and wants to start a carreer in baking, so why not give her a chance to show her talents to everyone. Carson W. will be selling sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, (and a new cookie to honor Shiver and Fears) Sugar and Fears cookies.

Now I'm sure you see this photo and think; "Um, blue cookies... what's in them?"
But believe me, I took these cookies out to the public and they were a hit!" If things go well Sugar and Fears cookies will be on the market with other Shiver and Fears products...

Now the question has been, Why are we getting thing setted so early? It's only May and the Bookaversary isn't until July. Here's the answer: With less to concern about means more time to work on. This could cause a person to this less about it until last minute. that's when things become a struggle. Thinking of last minute ideas, prop that need to be set, that should have been set weeks ago.
Not to mention, with the obvious out the way, the second hand thought can start coming in. Like for instants. What can people do who don't swim? What if a storm comes in? What's the plan if the party is bigger or smaller than planned?
With only a few months ahead, the party is being put together pretty fast. But will everything be set in time? If you're coming, I'm for sure you'll enjoy it.

AJ Hard presented on TV

Question, were you awake one morning, watching Toon in With Me and heard AJ H. mention during fan mail?

Well does this picture look familiar? If not then you missed out on another moment of fame with Shiver and Fears as we get noticed on TV.
WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER MOMENT?
Well, as some of you might know schools have made somewhat of a comeback. News crews had made an announcement about this. Check it out here. You see that guy in the red shirt? You got it! That was me! What was I doing there? Doing what I do best; helping kids.

Over the past few months Shiver and Fears has been able to grow beyond where it started. You may have not heard, but Shiver and Fears now includes shirts, audio and printed copies, and (this is a new one) cookies! That's right Shiver and Fears have their own cookie! not to mention mascot and ghostly friend!
Maybe you can meet Boo and Creeps... All you have to do is ask!

Wait, it was just a dream?

Last night, I had a dream... No this isn't about Martain Luther King Jr. This is about the bookaversary!

I was walking outside when i ran into my cousin Jerome. We were chatting a little and had mentioned he was a father. Now, I was shocked because Jerome is in high school.

As I was shocked he changed the subject and asked about the bookaversary party for Shiver and Fears. I wasn't too much worried about it, because for some odd reason I didn't think anyone really cared, so niether did I.

Then out of the blue a news reporter joined in and wanted to know more about the Shiver and Fears bookaversary party anouncement. I had no idea on what to say. Then to make things harder high school friends and fans were static about when the party was, where it was and what were the plans.

I was amazed and mentioned with enthuse, "Well, this year it's going to be a pool party." and everyone grew excitment.

When I awoke this morning, I starting thinking about how things usually go. Fund raiser on February, Equipment buys over the spring, and set up for games and prizes during the summer. Things are different this year, we aren't in need of a fund raiser, but it's true this year we plan a pool party, and of course a live feed!

As things get closer idea keep flowing. I'm excited about this years bookaversary. Hope you are too!

Meet with the Stars- Heather Bertram

Back in May 1994 R..L Stine had published his 20th Goosebumps book. a story about two teenagers who visit their grandparents on their farm. Meanwhile, they run into an old friend, Sticks and his father Stanley. Things are strange during their visit as they come to realize Stanley had an evil scheme involving the creepy scarecrows found around the farm. That's right! The story I'm talking about is: The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight.

Two years and 6 months passed before it became the 14th episode of season 2. This story starred John Campbell as one of the crucial leads, but the person Shiver and Fears got to interview was the head character. You "Goosebumps" fans know her as Jodie, but her accurate name is Heather Bertram.

After chatting with Heather, I asked if I could write her in this blog for the "Shiver and Fears" fans (and the Goosebumps fan as well)

1. How did you get the part?

Many talented actresses auditioned for the part of Jodie, including Heather herself. But out of all the tryouts, there was something about Heather that won the crew's heart.

2. How was it being in a story made by R. L. Stine?

Like you and myself, many people admire Goosebumps. Whether book or tv series fans love each chill thrill of a Goosebumps book from 1990s to today. "I liked doing the show episode I did," Heather says.

3.Who played the brother and how is your friendship now?

As you may know, John E. Campbell played the brother, Mark, in the tv episode Scarecrow Walks at Midnight. After the preformance, Heather and John went on with their lives and has no contact with him today, "I don't keep in touch with many of my co-stars these days." Like Heather, however, John also has done a few performances after "Goosebumps" as well.

4. Are you a Goosebumps fan, before or after you got the part?

Goosebumps started back in 1992 while the tv series started 3 years later in 1995, but Heather Bertram was always a fan! She enjoyed Goosebumps before even casting the part. To this day, she still is. Heather has even introduced Goosebumps to her family, "I am introducing my daughter, nephew and niece to it." she says.

5. What are you doing now as an adult?

When doing a little research, it was discovered that Heather's latest piece of work was back in 1999 in a film called "In the Company of Spies" as Julie Marko. But what is she doing now? "I am now a Connected Kids Tutor, Reiki Master ( which means I do mediation to kids and adult)" she has also stated of founding a company called Guided Hearts where she does Reiki Master.

Heather soon decided to leave acting to pursue this life dream. When asked if there was another Goosebumps episode she wanted to be a part of, Heather stated, "I am not really acting anymore, because of me wanting to live a normal life." She is now happy with her husband, Jason and her daughter Sadie.

6. How is your family life? Any Siblings?

Heather isn't the only one with an acting life. In fact, she has two sisters who also had a taste for thrills and chills. For any "Are You Afraid of the Dark" fans, you might remember of the story about a girl visiting in a haunted house. There she came across a young ghost girl. This story was called The Tale of the Lonely Ghost. And the girl who played Amanda Cameron was Laura Bertram. Who also starred in The Tale of the Mystical Mirror as Laurel.

Later in the season, Heather's younger sister played in another "Are You Afraid of the Dark" episode called The Tale of the Hunted as Laura. Heather and Jennifer later played in a Disney Channel Original Halloween movie about a phantom in a movie theater! You guessed it, "Phantom of the Megaplex"! with Heather as Caitlin and Jennifer as Lisa. "Laura is 42 now and is still acting in movies and guest starring roles," Heather explains, "Jennifer is 37 and is living a private and normal life." Heather also states her mother is still living.

Although this actress is done being on the big screen, what amazes me the most is being able to chat with her. This kind-hearted woman was not only patient enough to answer questions, but also bold to reveal her moment in the spotlight. It's not everyday you can conversate with a tv star, even if their moment was brief. So I'd like to give thanks to this 39-year-old former actress, Heather Bertram for her time.

Loud and Proud in the Parade

Today was fantastic. Here I was watching the annual MLK parade in OKC. This year was differnt than all the others. Because of Covid 19 the parade had been sent viral.

As most of you may know I was a part of the parade back in 2020. This year I wasn't so sure if I'd make it. The first part of the parade was special sponsors who made their announcements and speeches about the whole parade. (Kinda like how they start a football game) Then the real parade began. Dozens of vendor sang, presented their work, and spoke. As this was happening I was sending the live video to all the fans and friends I know.

I couldn't miss a second of the parade because I wasn't sure if I had made it or not. As I started to comment and sponsor myself I heard a familiar noise. Click here for what it was.

Over 300 people were watching that parade and over 300 people comment how much they enjoyed each sponsor and vendor. Question is, how many of those people were my fans? I would like to think about a quarter of that crowd was for me. It's a special privilege to be a part of an event where we can all come together, whether it be Christmas or Martin Luther King!

Catch this parade on Youtube.com- 2021 OKC MLK HOLIDAY PARADE

Finally done, the first book of 2021

And there it is!

I have just finished the writing of Shiver and Fears: Invasion of the Dog-Snakes. I think this was my most difficult story. About part way through chapter 15 I wasn't sure where the story would lead. I kind of had an idea where I wanted it to go, but where I was,I didn't know how to lead it in that direction.

One thing I never really done in story writing is get the characters in such a big situation, the only solution is the item revealed from earier in the story. I didn't really have that and with only 5 chapters left I wasn't sure how I'd get there.

Lucky for me I was able to find a solution and fit it within the 5 chapters. I really think this story is different. Most Shiver and Fears stories don't include families involved in the problem. This one had to be different due to how the whole family was in danger.

Another thing I think that is different is the ending. NO SPOILERS! But I will say I think it ended very similar to a Goosebumps book. And the one thing that is surely unique about this book is the cover. This including "The Happiest Show Ever" and "Sibling Subtraction" are all edited by pictures, not drawings.

What's next in the series? Shiver and Fears is having a sleepover! Similar to "A Creepy Christmas" 5 mini stories are being told about 5 different teens spending the night at their friend's house. How fun!
